Question:

PC to TV through Component Video?

I bought a VGA to Component Video cable, but it's just the cable, no converter box. Do you need a converter box for it to work? I'm trying to hook up my laptop to my HDTV, but my laptop only has a VGA output and my TV doesn't have DVI or VGA inputs and the one HDMI input is taken up by my satellite receiver. What's the easiest way to do this? If the cable doesn't work without a converter box, what is the cable good for?

  1. You probably just need to change the settings on your laptop to point to the VGA output instead of going to the monitor.  I do it on my laptop all the time, but I have to hit one of the function keys (F8 on my Dell) to make it show on the TV.
