PC to Xbox 360 Media center Extender question?

I'm trying to connect my pc with my xbox and I just have ethernet cable straight from pc to xbox 360 without any internet connection and the xbox says it's not connected. What's the problem? do i need internet connection in order to establish this or some sort of router?

you dont need any internet connection for the windows media center. the ethernet cable will do. the connection probably didnt work though because the xbox couldnt find your pc and your pc the xbox. somethings wrong with the ip address. try changing your ip address to manual if it is on auto..and auto if it is on manual.

I am kind of confused on what your question is but I will try to help. If you are trying to hook your Xbox up to the internet, you need to connect it to the router or the modem. Then if your PC is the Media Center Edition, it should recognize the Xbox on the same network and a balloon will come up on the bottom right. If I didn't answer your question, please clarify.
