Hi people, I have now: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8GHz, Biostar 945GC-M7 TE, NVIDIA GeForce 7300SE/7200GS 512MB, 2GB RAM, Win XP Pro SP2. I am planning to upgrade CPU as it is slow and graphics card also. Please suggest me a good CPU & graphics card. I want good graphics in upcoming games like CoD:WW & NFS: Undercover, I want to play the games with medium settings with all the effects of the game. Please, please suggest me a good CPU & graphics card. My budget is Rs. 16,000-17,000.

ThanQ in advance.

  1. With your current motherboard, you're limited in the CPUs your motherboard will actually run. You should check ECS's website to see if it can run a Core2 Duo 8000 series (1333 FSB), but 945-BASED BOARDS WILL NOT WORK WITH ANY QUAD CORE CPU. Either way, most motherboards are both inexpensive and will actually help with performance.

With that being said, I'd recommend the following -

Quad Core CPU, at least 2.4 GHz with a 1066 FSB (Core 2 Quad or Phenom)

Intel 30 or 40 series board chipset or comparable for Intel; nVidia-based board for Phenom (make sure it's AM2+ compatible)

4 GB RAM, DDR2-800 or faster

    ATI 3870, 4850 or 4870; or GeForce 8800, 9800, GX260/280; or faster

Of course, if your board supports overclocking the front-side bus, your Core 2 Duo E4300 could probably run at 2.8 GHz safely, on air, with the right cooler and some good thermal paste and without changing any other settings. Then all you'd really need to upgrade would be the video card, installing some faster RAM (DDR2-1066 just to be safe), and cooling enhancements for your case (more fans.

  2. Get  nvidia 8800GT and you will play on high settings. If you cant afford this buy with nvidia 8600gt 512 ddr3 and core 2 duo e4700 or e4600 or if you can find it e6400 or e6700.

  3. Get an E2180 and you can Overclock that to 3.6 easily. It'll save you lots of money if you know how.

If not get a wolfdale, those are the fastest ones out there.

For a Graphics card get an 8800GT which is the best card price wise, it's around $200 if you can afford but it supports DX10 and such.

If not a 86/9600GT will do well.

2GBs of RAM is fine, I have it but you might want 3GBs to be sage, Ram is cheap.

  4. word of advice find out what processors your mobo supports before running out and buy a new processor. You may wind up having to purchase a new mobo if you want to upgrade your computer to today ever changing standards

  5. Any intel core 2 quad should do and 8800GT Nvidia is good too!

Or if you want POWER get a core 2 extreme and a 9800GX2
