PCB's unbeatable streak of poor decisions – Opinion
For more than uncountable insistences, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proved that it still lacks the credentials of a well organized cricketing authority in Pakistan.
Ask why ?, well the simple reason behind this unfortunate conclusion is the board’s track road of poor decisions, and most of the times, the board then has to retract its earlier judgment.
Either the board should take a decision after proper planning and then http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 to it or should try not to make radical changes in the practiced SOPs to avoid embarrassment and wrath of former players and sports journalists.
In modern day and age, cricket boards all over the world seek new opportunities to raise the standard of the game in their respective countries. However, the trend is quite irritating and illogical in Pakistan.
Many would agree that some actions taken by the PCB are mostly counterproductive and discourage the national players to an extent that convinces them to quit playing for their country.
The recent decision by the PCB to bar its players from taking part in the Big Bash League in Australia raised many eyebrows, as the decision just did not make any sense because first, the board should have informed the players well in time to convey their
teams in Australia of their unavailability for the contest.
Second, the players would have returned back well before the start of Pakistan’s upcoming tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, so missing out on the opportunity of playing in Australia just did not make any sense.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595 were the three players signed by the Australian league for the mega T20 tournament, and while Akmal and Ajmal are at the top of their game, this league was vital for Afridi, who desperately needs to find his form
in order to save his place in the national team.
The board’s argument behind its decision was that the players were required to appear in Pakistan’s own T20 domestic tournament in order to be monitored by the national selectors.
The decision was criticised by many and later Cricket Australia had to step in to request the PCB to revert its decision.
Ironically the PCB, failing to prove its point to CA, permitted the players to appear in some games of the BBL.
A PCB spokesman told ESPNcricinfo. "We have reconsidered our decision, on the request of Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, as the players had already signed their contract. They will now leave at the tail end of [Pakistan's] T20 tournament, which runs from December 2 to
10, and will return when our conditioning camp starts."
The decision making process of the PCB seems in turmoil, where a single phone call from another board can change everything.
This is an unhealthy approach and would hurt http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket in times ahead. The board needs to learn that it has to have a proper process of analysing pros and cons of a particular decision before enforcing it.
This haphazard decision making has been around for more than two decades where different personnel headed the organization.
Tauqir Zia was without a doubt the most successful chairman PCB in the last three decades but he too made some unconvincing decision during his last days in office.
For the betterment of cricket in a country that has a history of tremendous talent, the PCB has to be restructured into a proper administration.
