The chief selector of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 is eager to resign from his post and may announce it as early as Wednesday, May 4, 2011.
Mohsin disagreed with the team selection for the upcoming Test series against the West Indian team starting from 12
May, 2011. The 15-member team was announced on 1 May, 2011, with quite a few surprises.
He was appointed as Chairman of the selectors on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2, 2010 after Iqbal Qasim resigned.
Iqbal’s resignation came in January 2010 after the dismal performance of the Pakistan Cricket team against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
It is learned that he is unhappy over the selection of Azhar Ali and dropping Adnan Akmal and Khurram Manzoor.
While talking to a newspaper, Mohsin stated that the intervention of a few people can be afforded as compared to about twenty, who were influencing the team selection.
He stipulated that the matter should be sorted out by lunch time on Wednesday otherwise he will call a press conference and announce to step down from his port folio.
"I will make an important decision regarding my future tomorrow [Wednesday], there have been issues over the selection of this squad and they need to be resolved. I have told the board about it,” Khan told ESPNcricinfo.
There have been concerns over the exclusion of wicket-keeper Adnan, who has performed excellently in the four Tests he played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. He came out with 17 dismissals behind the wickets, included eight catches in the last Test
against the Black Caps.
According to a local newspaper, one of the selectors kept insisting on the inclusion of Imran Farhat in place of Azhar Ali. PCB’s chairman intervened and Azhar was finally included in the squad.
Two former Chief selectors, Iqbal Qasim and Abdul Qadir have also expressed their concerns over the selected players, especially criticizing Adnan’s non-selection.
"After his brilliant wicket-keeping in New Zealand where he took eight catches in a Test last year, Adnan deserved a place in the Test team. It is total injustice against a youngster," Qasim said.
Salahuddin Ahmed was critical over ignoring the leg spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 who has not been given clearance by the Board after allegations of a spot fixing case in 2010.
Mohsin Khan will be the fifth Chairman of the selectors working under http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 to resign, the other four include Salahuddin Ahmed, Qadir, Qasim and Wasim Bari.
Sources disclosed that Mohammad Ilyas will be the care taker Chief selector if Mohsin declares it a day.
