PCB Integrity Committee chooses not to reveal decision on players’ clearance
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board’s (PCB) integrity committee, which met today in a bid to resolve the clearance issue of certain players, has decided not to release the details of its decision.
The selection committee and the integrity committee had gathered together to finalise the one-day international (ODI) squad for the ongoing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 tour and the 2011 World Cup. However, the selection committee cannot finalise the squad until some players
are cleared by the integrity committee. According to insiders it is believed that the committee has reached a decision, but chose not to make it public before consulting the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Former captain Shoaib Malik, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 are the three players under scrutiny by the PCB. The ICC believes that the players have some links with bookmakers, and have been involved in fixing matches. However, the
ICC has found no proof to link either player with any wrong doing, and this is why no formal charges have been leveled against them. For now they have just been barred from getting selected in the national team until the ICC’s doubts are cleared.
Earlier this month the PCB demanded the players to submit details of their financial assets to the board. The PCB wants to have a clear picture of the bank accounts and property of the players to make sure that there aren’t any discrepancies in their earnings.
According to reports the players submitted their financial details to the integrity committee in today’s meeting. If the players succeed in clearing themselves in the eyes of the committee they will most likely be picked for the national squad.
Since the integrity committee has not reached a decision yet, that will further delay the selectors in naming the squad for the World Cup. The last date for the PCB to announce the preliminary 30-member World Cup squad is 5 January. Therefore, it is important
that the board resolves the matter of the clearance of the players as soon as possible.
