PCB Turns down http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745’s request for an ODI series - Cricket News
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board has refused to go with the idea to have a One Day International series against Afghanistan, after the PCB was approached by their Afghanistan counterparts with a request for a tournament between the two national squads.
However, the board has agreed to hold an ODI series between Afghanistan’s national team and Pakistan’s ‘A’ team.
Earlier, the Afghanistan Cricket Board officials had a meeting with PCB Chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, for promotion cricketing ties between the two countries and to request him to consider hosting a ODI series between the national teams.
Providing reasons for turning down the ACB’s request for the proposed series, a PCB official said, “We explained to the Afghanistan officials that it was not possible for our national team to play the ODI series this year due to its international schedule and domestic season requirements. But we told them we are ready to help them out improve their cricket standards and structure by playing series involving the Pakistan A team.”
Unlike other cricket teams who have been taking the security situation in Pakistan rather seriously, team Afghanistan has expressed no reservations in this regard and stated that it had complete trust over Pakistan’s capability of providing fool proof security to them.
Talking about details regarding the development between Pakistan and Afghan cricket officials, a PCB official said, “The series between our A team and Afghanistan will be organized sometime in June and July”.
The proposed series between the two countries will prove beneficial for the two sides. On one side, it will strengthen the world’s trust on Pakistan’s capability of providing security to their guest teams. On the other hand, it will provide a chance to the Afghan team to learn from the experience of their rivals.
Showing a good will gesture to their western neighbours, Pakistan has already been facilitating the Afghan board by allowing some of their players to get trained in the National Cricket Academy, Lahore.
PCB has also allowed some of the Afghan players to play domestic cricket in Pakistan. Presently, the Afghanistan Board is hosting a tournament in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peshawar-c832, where the Peshawar District Cricket Association is facilitating the initiative.
