PCB bans Abdur Rehman indefinitely for dope offence – Cricket News Update
Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday banned left-arm spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Rehman-c41691 for an indefinite period for taking prohibited recreational drugs during his stint with Somerset this summer.
“We have asked the ECB to send us all the details and information regarding his case and once we get all the documents we will decide his case and till then he is banned to play cricket,” a PCB spokesman told media reporters here on Wednesday, while reacting on the ban imposed on the off-spinner by the ECB.
Rehman, 32, was apparently tested for doping during the county championship in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826, on August 8, confirmed the Adverse Analytical Finding for cannabis, which is a prohibited substance under the ECB’s Anti-Doping Rules and the World Anti-Doping Code.
Yesterday he was banned by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for twelve weeks (three months) for his doping offence.
The left-arm spinner was banned for a relatively shorter period because cannabis is a recreational drug and not performance enhancing. Using prohibited performance enhancing substances could have had the cricketer banned for a minimum of two years, under the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 code of conduct. However, now his period of suspension will run until midnight December 21, 2012.
The 32-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler was due to play for domestic Twenty20 side http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 on October 9, 2012. However, his doping offence followed by an ECB ban prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board to withdraw the player from the touring party.
“He is out of champions league and cannot play any level of domestic cricket,” the PCB official added further.
Meanwhile, the left-armer has apologized to the boards (PCB and ECB), as well as his family and fans for the wrongdoing and vowed to make a strong comeback after suspension.
