The good news was finally disclosed that the wicket keeper batsman Kamran Akmal has been cleared for the selection process in terms of the upcoming World cup Cricket 2011.
The news brought delight for not only the player himself but for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket board as well. Akmal has not played since September this year after the England series and then controversies followed the player which kept him out of action.
Initially Akmal went through a medical treatment after the England series and was dropped for the on-going series against South Africa.
Consequently after he regained fitness, participation in the domestic season ensured that the player could be included as the wicketkeeper batsman in the team. But controversy struck the cricketer once more in the form of allegations for involvement in spot-fixing
in the match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 during the Twenty20 World Cup 2010. This time a probe was ordered for the game and Salman Butt and Kamran Akmal were named for spot-fixing.
The probe was also a matter of concern for the PCB who did not proTest at all on the inquiry order on logical grounds and hence proved to the world that the board was certainly on the back foot. However the result of the probe proved that the players named
had nothing to do with the allegations put on them in the first place and Kamran was cleared and made available for selection much to the selectors’ joy.
The form which Kamran showed in the domestic season after recovery from medical ailment was in its own essence pretty clear that the wicket keeper had to be recalled for the Test matches against South Africa after Zulqarnain Haider fled the UAE, deserting
the team in the middle of the series. But this was not to be. Rather than allowing the player to have a comeback, Adnan Akmal, his brother was asked to keep the wickets for the national team.
PCB has not reacted formally but individuals holding key positions at the PCB have expressed their relief and gratitude over the dismissal of allegations against the star player of the Pakistan cricket team.
The bigger question at the moment is whether an important inquiry at the knick of time will render Kamran unavailable for selection for the World Cup 2011 or not. Or will the PCB gear up and select him for the mega event? Only time will tell.
