PCB chairman accuses Punjab government for Bangladesh tour cancellation – Cricket News Update
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, has accused the Punjab government and their ignorance regarding the proposed tour of Bangladesh as the prime reason behind the eventual cancellation of the series.
“The statement made by the Punjab government was that it was not aware of the Bangladesh team's tour to Lahore and so how could it provide security damaged the tour,” Ashraf said.
“The statement sent out a wrong message to the outside world and to the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Believe me everything was in place for the series to take place and we had even started printing of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cameron-James-Borgas-c49157 for the two matches and other arrangements were
also being put into place,” he added.
The PCB has been actively involved in efforts to bring international cricket back to Pakistan, after a terrorist attack on the visiting Sri Lankan team in 2009 brought the security situation in the country under question.
Since then, foreign teams have been reluctant to tour Pakistan, and Ashraf has been in contact with several cricket boards, in an attempt to encourage them to send their teams to play in the country. Earlier this year, the most promising prospect appeared
to be the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 for a series proposed by the PCB.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board sent a delegation to review the security situation in Pakistan, and granted their initial approval of the arrangements in Lahore, where the series was scheduled to be held.
However, differences in the statements given out by officials from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 and central government gave rise to doubts regarding the security arrangements, and the Dhaka High Court issued a ruling against the series, forbidding the board from sending the
Bangladeshi players to Pakistan.
The board has been unable to rope in any other teams, and is currently in the middle of a project which involves the launch of a T20 tournament, fashioned on the Indian Premier League and the Bangladesh Premier League.
Meanwhile, the board recently had another face-off with the Punjab government, after a wall constructed by the PCB in the Gaddafi stadium, Lahore, for security purposes, was demolished by the Gulberg Town municipal corporation (which oversees the area where
the stadium, and the PCB headquarters, are located).
