PCB committee to short-list candidates for national team’s coaching position – Cricket News Update
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board's (PCB) four-member committee, headed by Intikhab Alam, will meet on September 29, 2011, to short-list the candidates for the post of national team’s head coach.
“The committee will meet in Karachi on September 29 to review all the applications and shortlist some candidates whose names will then be forwarded to the board for final appointment,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380 said.
The search for the candidate started after the outgoing coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193 unexpectedly announced his retirement from the post following the Zimbabwean tour, citing some health and personal issues.
Waqar, who joined the national team as a coach in March 2010, had been offering useful services during his tenure, despite being caught up in several controversies. Waqar’s sudden announcement of retirement from the coaching post tempted many former cricketers and experts to speculate.
According to speculations, Waqar made the decision after having a dispute with the Board; however, the PCB management clarified that Waqar made the choice himself, without any outside influence.
Alam, while talking to media, refused to reveal any details regarding the possible contestants for the said post.
“So far we have got applications from local and some foreign coaches in response to the advertisement put out by the board for the coaching position,” Alam added
Earlier, Alam himself showed interest in applying for the job, saying that he would welcome the post if offered by PCB. Although, media reports have shown that PCB has included the names of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sabih-Azhar-c87765 for the coaching post, Alam in his earlier statement, indicated that there are equal possibilities for a foreign coach.
Waqar recently guided the national team to a successful Zimbabwean tour, where they played one Test, a three-match One-Day International series and a two-match Twenty20 competition, winning all.
