PCB confirms use of UDRS in Pak-England series – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) will be in place during the upcoming Pakistan-England bilateral series, starting from January 17, 2012, at the neutral venues of the UAE.
The board’s Chief Operating Officer, Subhan Ahmad, has revealed to the media today that Pepsi is going to sponsor the technology which will cost $5000 per match. According to him, the system is a valuable addition to the game, as it has revamped the decision
making process and reduced errors to a great extent.
Subhan said, “We believe that the system is a value addition to the sport and has helped in reducing errors in the game and assisting the umpires in making the right decisions. It has been possible for us to have this system only because of the sponsors.
Hopefully the system will be a helpful tool for the umpires in Tests and ODIs.”
He further told, “We have obtained sponsorship due to which the UDRS will be applied during the Test and ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. We will be using the hawkeye and snickometer technologies in the series.”
The England and Wales Cricket Board has also mandated the use of the DRS in the 3-Test and 4-ODI series. Remember, the English, especially their specialist spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501, have always been supporting the new technology which they believe to be good
for the game.
Some analysts predict that the Men in Green, who also employed the DRS during the ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 last month, will be at advantage as they have a bunch of quality spinners who can use the technology to get the right LBW decision. Swann will
also feel comfortable with the system in place.
UDRS, since its inception in 2007, has been a matter of controversy in international cricket. Despite its successful application in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at top, which oppose the technology.
In the presence of the DRS, Pak-England series will become more competitive and thrilling. The two nations are going to play a series for the first time since August 2010 when the gruesome spot-fixing scam of the Pakistani trio erupted.
