PCB considers cost factor when deciding venue for series against Australia – Cricket News Update
Following the visit of senior Pakistan Cricket Board official, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, the board has announced that both Malaysia and the
UAE are potential venues for the series, with a final decision to be announced this week.
“We have discussed the matter with Intikhab Alam and both countries, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397.
“We are considering the cost factor and the detailed report has been submitted to the finance department for evaluation,” he added.
Alam expressed his approval of the facilities in Malaysia, and admitted that it would be a “cheaper” option for the PCB.
“I visited the Kinrara Stadium here today which is impressive while the other facilities are also very good,” he had said earlier, during his trip.
In terms of cost, Malaysia appears to be a more viable option – however, it has been learnt that there may be some hindrances when it comes to broadcasting. The UAE, however, has previously been used as a venue for hosting http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’ home series, and being
familiar with the venues - Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi – Alam’s visit did not include the aforementioned cities.
Pakistan has been unable to host visiting teams on home ground since the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore, which cast doubts over the security situation in the country. Since then, the Men In Green have been forced to hold home series
at neutral venues such as the UAE.
In addition to uncertainties regarding the venue, the make-up of the upcoming series against Australia is also unconfirmed.
Owing to the warm weather and the holy month of Ramadan, the PCB have expressed the desire to convert the ODI matches into a series of 6 to 7 T20s. However, the proposal has been rejected by the International Cricket Council, with the governing body having
suggested that the PCB may bring the matter up once again at the Chief Executive meeting scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur later this month.
