PCB considers possibility of Pakistan Premier League – Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board has been considering the possibility of a Pakistan Premier League T20 tournament, and will be seeing presentations on the feasibility of launching such an event. These presentations, as confirmed by a senior board official, “will
be held sometime next week.”
“There are some parties who will make presentations to the board on how the PPL can be organised in the country,” the official went on to confirm.
The board had previously expressed interest in the prospect of launching such an event, and of late seems to be carrying out concrete plans for its implementation.
The 2-day meeting on the PPL had earlier been postponed owing to the tight schedule of PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf. Sources have confirmed that companies making presentations at the meeting include a Dubai and Karachi-based sports management group, along with
an organization with links to a reputable international television broadcasting and sports management company.
“We are dead serious about having our own PPL. But the reality is that we have to first study the modalities and feasibility of having such an event, which would not be possible without the input and expertise from an established company.”
Looking to break the drought of international cricket, Pakistan has been experiencing since a terrorist attack on the visiting Sri Lankan team in 2009, the PCB has actively been involved in attempts to invite foreign teams to play in Pakistan.
After their failure to interest neighbours India and Bangladesh for a series, the board has expressed interest in assembling a World XI to play in Pakistan, in addition to inviting Kent-based club Lashings, and organizing a British Universities tour, which
is scheduled to take place in April this year. The aim is to promote a better image of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 by convincing foreign players that it is safe to tour the Green Nation.
“The situation is different now as we need to showcase an event in Pakistan with foreign participation, and the PPL appears to be the best bet for us,” the official explained.
He also praised similar ventures undertaken by neighbours http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League), claiming that they had played a major role in “improving the status of domestic players in both the countries.”
While various Pakistan players took part in the newly launched BPL, the Men In Green have not featured in the IPL auctions since the launch of the event on 2008, leading to further deterioration of sporting ties between the two countries.
