PCB decides to hold more First Class matches under floodlights
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to hold more First Class matches of the upcoming season under floodlights.
This idea is a follow up of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy final (2010-2011) that wrote a new chapter in the history of Pakistan’s domestic cricket as the crowd witnessed the final test encounter under floodlights for the first time.
Shafiq Ahmed Papa, currently designated as the General Manager of Umpires and referees in the Pakistan Cricket Board mentioned that PCB has planned to host more Quaid-e-Azam trophy encounters under lights.

The PCB is stigmatized for not providing a suitable platform to their domestic cricketers. However, through such measures, the Board seems to be moving in a positive direction.
Domestic cricket plays a crucial role in by being the feeder source for the country’s International team.
The Quaid-e-Azam trophy Final, which was held under floodlights, was between Pakistan international Air lines and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Habib-Bank-Limited-c788 with the home team bagging the cup.
The main aim of the final was to gather more support for first class cricket in the country. This innovation resulted in attracting sponsors as well who will be looking towards first class cricket as a lucrative business.
The Lahore attacks and the ongoing situation in Pakistan has been a deterrent for International teams who would have wanted to tour the country.
In order to overcome the economic depression and stagnancy, the best alternative available is the promotion of first class cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
However, internal issues remain hurdles in the development of cricket, the stadiums are often under strict security and fans are reluctant to actually show up for matches.
Cricket is extremely popular in Pakistan, if promoted properly, there is room for great progress in the sport.
Shafiq said, “The final turned out to be a success story, which prompted us to consider it on a much regular basis instead of limiting it to just the final”
The schedule of the upcoming Quaid-e-Azam trophy provides every team with one chance of playing under lights.
Commenting on the broadcast of these matches PCB said, “The plan is at advanced stages and we are looking for suitable broadcasters to come up, in order to make sure that these matches are aired.”
The idea of playing test matches under lights has had a mixed response internationally. Some see it as against the spirit of the format while others believe it is a step towards bringing Test cricket at par with the One Day International and Twenty20 format
of the game.
