PCB delays announcement of World Cup probables
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to delay the announcement of the 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup. The deadline for the announcement of the squad for the PCB is 5
January. All the other teams have already announced their World Cup probables squad.
Along with the World Cup squad, the PCB is yet to announce the final squad for the one-day international (ODI) series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket team is already in New Zealand and will be playing the ODIs after a two Test match series. The
team has already played and lost the Twenty20 series 2-1.
Members of the national selection committee decided to defer naming the squad after a meeting at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday. The decision to delay the probable squad is because the selection committee is still waiting on the clearance of a few players.
The Chief Selector of the Pakistan cricket team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohsin-Hasan-Khan-c77595 said, “The announcement of both the squads has been deferred until early next week. It is pertinent to mention here that PCB has to submit the names of 30 players to the ICC for the World
Cup by 5 January, 2011.”
Khan said that the selection committee wants to be sure about which players are available for selection and which are not. He stated, “We had lengthy discussions on performance and availability of many players. We were of the opinion that since we still
have a few days before the deadline for announcing the World Cup Squad it would be better to wait until there is absolute clarity from PCB on the availability for selection of certain players.”
Earlier, the captain of the one-day and Twenty20 teams http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 expressed his displeasure over the delay in naming the squads. The PCB had to announce the World Cup probable until 19 December, but the board requested for extension in the deadline which
was granted by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The delay in naming the squad for the World Cup could hurt the preparations of the team. The captain and the coach would like to be certain about what combination they will have available for the Mega event. They will be hoping that there are no further
delays, and that the decision is made soon.
