PCB delays announcement of limited overs squads
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and the 2011 World Cup. The move comes after the board’s integrity committee could not come up with a conclusive decision
regarding the issue of clearance of certain players.
The selection committee today announced that it would take a week to finalise the team for the upcoming events. The PCB released a statement which said, “The Selection Committee deliberated upon the names for 30 probables for the upcoming ICC World Cup as
well as the ODI Squad for the New Zealand Series.” The statement further said, “The announcement of both the squads has been deferred till early next week. It is pertinent to mention here that PCB has to submit the names of 30 players to ICC for the World
Cup by 5 January, 2011."
The selection committee was to finalise the names of the players for the ODI series and the 2011 World Cup, but failed in doing so because they are still not clear over the position of Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314. The three players are
under the PCB’s scrutiny because the International Cricket Council (ICC) has some reservations about their role in match-fixing. Until the players don’t get clearance from the PCB integrity committee, the selection committee cannot consider them for the national
team.
Yesterday the integrity committee held a lengthy session of meetings, which consisted of interviews with the suspected players.  Earlier this month the PCB had asked the players to submit their financial details, because the board wanted to have knowledge
of their properties and income. According to insiders, the players submitted the details of their assets to the committee during the meeting. The committee is also said to have quizzed Danish Kaneria about an incident which involved the British police questioning
the leg-spinner about allegedly spot-fixing a county match.
Even after this marathon session of meetings, the committee was still unsure about the status of the players and decided not to make the contents of the meeting public before consulting with the ICC. The selection committee is in a dilemma these days because
three players Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif are facing spot-fixing charges from the ICC. That means they cannot be selected until proven innocent in an ICC hearing, which will take place from 6-11 January.
Although the players are not facing any official charges, still they cannot be selected for the national team until they receive a clearance from the PCB’s integrity committee. This situation has left the selection committee with very few options to choose
from. The players under scrutiny are some of the most talented players in the country and without them Pakistan will probably face a tough time in this year’s World Cup.
