PCB delays appointment of batting coach until end of India tour – Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board will not be appointing a batting coach for the national team ahead of next month’s tour to India, for a short limited-overs series against the arch-rivals.
Following Pakistan cricket team’s dismal batting performance in the last two series, against Sri Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 last month, the PCB management decided to snap up services of a full time batting coach.
A three-member committee has also been appointed to scrutinise, shortlist and recommend candidates for the newly created position. The panel includes former Pakistan great Zaheer Abbas, former coach and team manager http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naushad-Ali-Rizvi-c78868. The committee had sought applications from interested candidates from Pakistan and outside the country until December 5.
A number of local and foreign aspirants, including former skippers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Inzamam-ul-Haq-c64383, have either applied for the position or have publicly conveyed their interest.
However, a well placed source from inside the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has told media reporters that the board has decided to postpone the selection and announcement of the batting coach until after the tour of India, which ends on January 7, 2013.
"The board will not be sending a batting coach to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 tour that begins in third week of January," the source said.
"The selection process for a batting coach is going to take time because we have received CVs of some very strong candidates even from abroad and within the country," the source added further.
The biggest problem the PCB is facing while appointing the former Pakistan greats as the national batting coach is that they do not have the required qualifications.
"Inzamam, Zaheer and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salim-c88143 Malik might be greats but they are not qualified coaches," said the source, adding that most of the foreign candidates interested in the coaching position meet the eligibility criteria.
The source also claimed that the decision to delay the appointment of the batting coach was taken after getting PCB chief Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397’s approval. "He usually takes his time and this time the choice of candidates is varied," concluded the PCB source.
