PCB facing trouble in implementing ICC democratic system policy –Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seemingly least interested in implementing the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) policy of a democratic system under which, the affiliate members need to have a elected chairman before the deadline date of June 2013.
According to ICC’s code, the chairman’s position is subject to election among different candidates, rather than direct appointment. ICC further reserves the right to impose sanctions in case of non-compliance with its policies.
“Though we have started work on the required amendments in the constitution as per the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 instructions, we see too much problems in implementing it as the PCB feels that the president of Pakistan, in, is more helpful for the organization,” told PCB Chief
Operating Officer, Subhaan Ahmed.
When the policy was announced last year, only three countries were not following the imposed system i.e. Pakistan, Bangladesh and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. However, since then the Lankan government has brought about the necessary alterations in their system.
While in Pakistan, the President of the country holds the authority of appointing the chairman of the cricket board. Same is the case is in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, where their Prime Minister, Hasina Wajed, selects the head position.
PCB however, intends to meet the ICC’s instruction but in case of failure to implement the policy, will be looking forward to seek ICC’s support.
“We will try our best to find a best solution for this, but in case we fail to meet the deadline we will try and convince the game’s governing body about our problems in implementing this decision,” said Subhan.
The PCB official, though, didn’t mention a specific reason for not implementing democratic system; however, he remained pretty content with the current scenario which sees the president having the final say – mainly due to the various concerns in the country
regarding infrastructure, security and finance.
The board has ruled out any chance of discussing the matter with its general body as it has no authority to approve any change. Interestingly, cricket is the only sport of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 where the general body has no power to approve any amendment in the constitution.
