Speaking in reference to recent media reports which suggest that major bookmakers are planning to target the upcoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board’s team management has insisted that the reports do not worry the
board, which has implemented a variety of mechanisms to guard the players against indulging in spot-fixing.
Pakistan team manager http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naved-Iqbal-Cheema-c78897, while speaking to the Express Tribune, claimed that the PCB was not bothered by these reports, as they had completed their preparations to counter any threat. These included the distribution of anti-corruption
literature among the players on the team, in addition to briefings.
“... we have done our homework and prepared well to avoid such threats. Our defined SOPs and precautions are flawless and by following this effectively, no untoward episode can happen,” he said, going on to add that the players were well aware of the devastating
consequences of breaching the SOPs.
“Players are aware of the menace. They are better educated about the threat through the lectures against corruption,” Cheema explained. “The players discipline has been perfect for the past few months. They're focused on their performance and the team management
is hopeful they will not indulge in any controversy.”
Going on to elaborate on the more practical methods implemented by the board, Cheema revealed that players had been forbidden to associate with strangers, and would be required to follow a strict curfew. The Men in Green have also been barred from using
social networking sites during the event, and will be closely monitored by the PCB’s experienced security manager, Col. Waseem Ahmed.
The stringent measures come as no surprise, after the slew of spot-fixing scandals with which Pakistani cricketers have been associated.
