PCB likely to increase its players' salary after three years
The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Zaka Ashraf, on Wednesday hinted at increasing the salaries of their centrally contracted players, which were not revised since the last three years.
In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, the PCB chief revealed that the board was in the process of finalizing the new contract lists and hoped it would be done by the end of this week.
"The new central contracts, which will be finalised this week, will offer increased pay scales for the players,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128’s three-year tenure expired. “This is because
of the wonderful last year our team has had despite everything," he added further.
By “everything”, the PCB chief was referring to the infamous spot fixing scandal that occurred during the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 2010. The scandal arose during the tenure of his predecessor Ijaz Butt, and his three year spell as PCB
chief was consistently marred by controversies. The captaincy of the team was a major issue during his time.
Although Butt had been the ‘butt’ of all jokes, Ashraf was quick to ring his praise by stating that his predecessor had ran the PCB smoothly.
"I don't think the house was out of order and this is why I haven't come up with any sweeping changes,” said Ashraf. “I don't see any problems now; the smooth functioning of the board is ultimately reflected in the performance of
the team, and we are doing so well," he added further.
Ashraf did say that he found a communication gap when he took over but addressed the problem by forming a co-ordination division.
Replying to a query regarding the return of international cricket to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, the incumbent said that he has been working on the matter since taking charge and hopes to see international teams coming to Pakistan soon.
He said that the board was in constant talks with the Board of Cricket Control http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 for the resumption of cricket between the two nations. Ashraf told media reporters that he had also sought the help of the foreign ministry in this
regard.
Pakistan has not hosted an international match since March 2009 and has not played a bilateral series with India since January 2008.
