PCB names Mohammad Irfan and Asad Shafiq as replacements for the suspended trio
The Pakistan Cricket Board, in what could be termed as the latest development, has announced the replacements for suspended players Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif.
Asad http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shafiq-c89281 along with the tall left arm bowler Mohammad Irfan will make the trip to England for the 5 match ODI series. The move comes amidst embarrassing spot-fixing allegations that have led to the suspension of three Pakistani players including bowling sensation Mohammad Amir - the youngest ever bowler to have taken 50 test wickets.
Even though the ICC has provisionally suspended three players, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128’s men have only given out two replacements. According to the PCB, the two players would fly to England to join the team next week.
"The two are presently playing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 with Pakistan A. The selectors have picked them as replacements as they were among the standbys for the one-day series," a board official said.
The PCB believed that more reinforcements will be named if the need was felt. Shafiq has previously represented Pakistan in one ODI against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup earlier this year. On the other hand, Mohammad http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Irfan-c64444, the 7 feet 1 inch left arm bowler from Gaggu Mandi will make his debut for the national side if given the chance in England.
Up till now, Irfan has only played a few domestic matches while representing the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaqib-Javed-c41431 and was summoned to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. In only his second first class game, Irfan took 7-113 with an overall tally of 9 wickets during that match. He came close to being selected for the World T20 in the Caribbean but his name was later withdrawn from the national side.
It is hoped that Pakistan would be able to put up a strong fight against the English team, following a string of embarrassing defeats which were overshadowed by the spot-fixing imbroglio. ODI captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 has shown his commitment to the team by reiterating his stance that the team must “move on” and get their focus back in the upcoming matches.
The three players of the Pakistan side were earlier suspended by the ICC on Friday which resulted in a strong protest by the Pakistan High Commission in England, since Pakistan had already announced that these players would not be playing for the remainder of the tour, and replacements will be called in. If the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard fails to find sufficient evidence, then the ICC could find itself in an embarrassing situation.
