PCB rejects ICC’s democratic constitution – Cricket News Update
The Patron-in- chief of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s instructions of implementing a democratic electoral system, currently adhered to by most of the cricketing boards.
The decision was formally announced by the current Chairman of the PCB, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, during the board’s annual meeting on Tuesday.
According to current constitution, the President of the country reserves the right of appointing the chairman of the board, as oppose to the ICC’s stance, which requires the highest position to be filled on merit, with the qualified candidate elected rather
than appointed.
While the issue was discussed in detail in the recent meeting, the chairman further added they will not allow ICC to interfere in their internal matters – allowing little room for a democratic system.
Apart from Pakistan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 made amendments to their constitution in order to accommodate
the ICC’s ruling.
The highest cricket governing body has set a March 2013 deadline date for all its affiliate members to make the necessary changes, or else face hefty consequences – the maximum penalty could lead to disaffiliation.
According to sources, the major reason for PCB’s perseverance in their current stance has come, following a recent move in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, where the Indian government has also taken keen interest in handling cricketing affairs – making their practice similar to the
one followed by Pakistan.
However, PCB’s stance could prove costly, considering their past history, which has seen them showing negligence in the handling of their players – leading to the infamous spot-fixing incident in 2010. The then chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 was at the centre stage
of further controversies, including high-profile altercations with former coach and captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482.
However, the new chairman has been pretty vigilant in restoring the country’s tainted position and is working hard to bring about the necessary changes which will force the ICC to re-consider their current attitude and give PCB a little leverage.
