The PCB reasoned that the players must take part in the country’s own domestic competition, which is scheduled to take place in the first 10 days of the next month, the same period when the Big Bash commences Down Under. Afridi had already signed for Sydney Thunder for the upcoming season in July this year, having played for Melbourne Renegades in the inaugural campaign, where he was the team’s leading wicket-taker with 10.
As for Ajmal and Akmal, it would have been their first taste of T20 action Down Under. The spin wizard had signed for the Adelaide Strikers, having impressed with his variations while bowling against the Aussie national side. He however, was available for only the opening game for Strikers, against Perth Scorchers.
As for Akmal, he was contracted to the reigning champions Sydney Sixers and like Afridi, was scheduled to take part in the first three games of competition, which included an opening meeting with rivals Sydney Thunder.
All were handed No Objection Certificates to play in the league but have now been ordered to focus only on their country’s endeavours. Afridi was further contemplating a return to first-class cricket after his performances were severely criticized by former Men in Green players during last month’s World T20. The player scored just 30 runs in six matches, and was also below par with the ball, claiming 4 scalps at 42.75.
