PCB sends legal notice to Mickey Arthur
PCB has issued a notice to the former coach of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969, where they have demanded that he must respond to the notice within seven days about the controversial comments that he made quite recently. He suggested that a particular ODI match
played between South Africa and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in 2007 was shrouded under “a strong suspicion of match-fixing”.
Following Arthurs comments, the PCB issued a statement on 5th October where it expressed their concern over his alarming confession and said that they would pursue legal action against him. Arthur however defended his claims and said that his
confession was taken out of context however interestingly enough the very same claims are set to be published in his autobiography. Earlier this month Herschelle http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 released his autobiography where he claimed that the South African players smoked Marijuana
and indulged in sexual orgies. These claims have been dismissed by the Proteas team members who said that they were ‘shocked and disappointed’ over the horrendous suggestions.
The PCB in the legal notice have written that they find it, “extremely startling” that Arthur has made the confession three years later. Technically he should have informed the ICC if he had any proof of match fixing taking place. "They [the PCB] have reason
to believe that such scandalizing statements have been made by you inter alia to "sell" your biography." The notice further reads that the claims and accusations are “whimsical, frivolous, defamatory, disparaging, denigrating, libellous, slanderous and derogatory.”
Arthur has been asked to issue an unconditional apology and has also been asked to retract his statement. The board has also demanded that his biography must not contain any such statements against the Pakistan team or any of its members. They have asked
him to give a written undertaken in this regard.
The PCB have further directed the former South African coach to pay them a “substantial” amount in damages. The South African now has seven days to respond to the legal notice.
