PCB serves a legal notice to International Cricket Council
Newly proposed amendments from the ICC have resulted in legal action taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
According to these amendments, which will be part of ICC’s constitution, cricket boards all over the world will operate as an autonomous body. This clearly indicates the departure of government interference in the Board’s internal and external affairs.
The Legal firm representing PCB’s point of view is DLA Piper UK LLP. They recently suggested that these proposed amendments support unfair practices according to Section 184 (1) of the Business Companies act 2004.
Since the current designation of PCB chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 is under threat, PCB in response as threatened legal action against the ICC in case of a formal implementation of these amendments.
The amendments also mandate free elections for the Board’s executive body. All nominees associated with a particular cricket board will be elected through this proposed election process.
If the amendments are finalized, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board will have to step down from office and the President of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 will lose his prerogative as the appointing authority of the PCB.
ICC’s newly designed guidelines mainly focus on treating all the boards as entities free from political influences. Decisions made on political grounds are against the respect and nature of any sport.
Pakistani Cricket is already suffering from recent blows, the PCB should avoid any kind of conflict with the ICC since Pakistani Cricket cannot afford any more damage.
Ijaz Butt, the PCB Chairman, is quite a controversial figure in Pakistan. During his tenure, match-fixing has reared its ugly head many a times. Several officials also have some serious qualms against the policies headed by Ijaz Butt and his allies.
First it was the former Chief Selector of PCB, Abdul Qadir that resigned after showing dissatisfaction with the Board’s policies and the Chairman’s take on cricket as a sport.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, the current Chief selector of PCB has also been in headlines for his demand of complete selection rights.  He has threatened to resign and PCB should seriously look into its affairs.
Other Boards likely to stand against the newly proposed legislation are http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, which are based on a structure similar to that of the PCB.
