PCB set to announce captain on 4 February
Talking to the Pakistan media, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 refused to announce the name of captain who will lead Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2011. "We will announce the captain on February 4 that is decided now," he said.
The captaincy issue is a burning debate amongst the cricketing world in Pakistan. The enthusiastic cricket fans will have to wait for a few days to find out which player will lead Pakistan in the World Cup.
The captaincy row between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 is creating confusion within Pakistan cricket for the past few days. Many experts have criticised the PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt for creating a tense atmosphere within the team due to his delay in announcing
the captain’s name. Supporters of Pakistani cricket feel that the team is polarised under two captains and the performance of the players will begin to suffer as the announcement is delayed.
Earlier, the PCB chairman travelled to New Zealand to make the announcement of captain but has now decided to inform the media a day before the final match of the on-going series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
Most people feel that Afridi’s naturally aggressive style makes him the default choice over Misbah to captain Pakistan. Afridi’s energetic attitude and ‘on the field’ presence, puts him slightly ahead of Misbah for captain. Misbah, with a more defensive
style of play and consistent performance is making the decision to name a captain difficult for the PCB.
The former captain and wicket-keeper of Pakistan, Rashid Latif suggested that Afridi’s captaincy for the World Cup is the right choice because of his hard-line attitude and that there is no need to assign Misbah in his place.
Many controversies surrounding the captaincy issue are swirling around, as Afridi was under pressure for his lack of performance before the third One Day International. Misbah was nominated as a strong candidate, but Afridi performed brilliantly in the third
ODI, bringing the whole captaincy issue into the spotlight.
The Pakistan Test Skipper Misbah has performed consistently with consecutive fifties in last test match against the Kiwis and he performed very well in 1st ODI. With his strong performances, Misbah has found himself in the middle of the entire
captaincy issue as a potential candidate.
The PCB has announced the 15-man squad for the World Cup without naming a captain. Many former players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084 are worried that the team will be put into disarray without naming a captain to lead.
Former Pakistani leg spinner Abdul Qadir and bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarfraz-c88817 Nawaz are in favour of Misbah as captain. “Afridi plays for the gallery (spectators) and doesn’t play for the team,” Nawaz said. “He always falls to a false shot and I don’t think his bowling has
enough venom now.”
Current bowling coach and former captain Waqar Younus has expressed regret for commenting on the recent captaincy issue. He has formally apologized to the PCB for passing judgement on the current issue of naming a captain. The PCB’s manager http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nadeem-Sarwar-c78422
has confirmed that the board has asked Waqar Younus to explain the reasons for making comments on the current captaincy issue.
Now more than ever, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket team need to come together and work as one complete unit. Regardless of who is named captain, special attention is needed for the players to focus on their performance, not only as individuals, but as a team if they
are to have any success in the upcoming World Cup.
