PCB should also start its own cricket league, says Kamran Akmal – Cricket News Update
The out of favour Pakistani wicketkeeper/batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) to start its own cricket league. The cricketing boards of other nations are using this idea to promote their players and generate revenue.
The history of the concept can be traced back to the Kerry Packer Series and its later adoption by the Indian Cricket League (ICL). The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerry-Francis-Bullmore-Packer-c71015 Series and the ICL were both unofficial, as they were not recognised by their respective boards. To counter
the ICL, the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) launched the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.
IPL has changed the face of international cricket as the franchises offer lucrative contracts to the players and this is the reason behind some high profile players quitting international cricket to play in the cash-rich league.
Cricket analysts and former cricketers have voiced their opinion that the concept of franchise cricket is eroding loyalties for national teams, and they have called on the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) to intervene, to help solve this malaise.
Kamran does not share this belief and has urged the PCB to start a similar venture. The wicketkeeper is currently in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 to play in the inaugural Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Kamran said, “We are seeing these Twenty20 competitions being launched around the world now, featuring some of the best players from all over the globe. The BPL is the latest such venture and I would urge the PCB to finalise and launch a similar competition.”
Kamran is currently out of the fold of the national team, and his place in the Test team is occupied by his younger brother Adnan. His brother made a crucial half-century in the Pakistani first innings, to set up victory for the home team.
“Adnan gave a very good performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in Dubai. His wicket keeping was very good and his batting on the second day and the final day was exactly what the team needed. He’s been working very hard on his cricket and I hope that he continues to
work hard and improve,” the wicketkeeper added.
