PCB suggests that Zulqarnain Haider has played his last game for Pakistan
There are suggestions from Pakistan Cricket Board officials that Zulqarnain Haider will not play again for Pakistan. These reports are just a buildup of what happened this Monday when Zulqarnain Haider fled to London after receiving threats from match fixers.
Zulqarnain Haider shocked the whole Pakistani cricket team when he opted to leave the last One Day of the 5 match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and chose to go to London instead. He was of the view that some unidentified people had contacted him and they asked
him to play badly and do certain things in the 4th and 5th One Day.
According to him when he did not follow their instructions they threatened him and suggested that his stay on the team would become difficult. Zulqarnain defended his decision of not telling the cricket board saying it would have jeopardized his and his
family’s security. He also suggested that he felt that it is better not to tell the team officials there as it might put other players in danger and the news might get leaked.
But this action can be a career ending one for the young wicket keeper as there are suggestions from the headquarters of Pakistan cricket that Zulqarnain has played his last game.
Though this whole episode has been an embarrassing one for Pakistan Cricket Board, it really poses a serious question for all Pakistani cricket officials, how powerful are match fixers in influencing the modern game?
At one point it did look as Zulqarnain had made a stupid decision of not considering his fellow players and Team management worthy of trust over this issue but at the same time it raises questions about PCB official’s ability to win the trust of players.
Former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja, who is chief executive officer of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) and was also present during the One Day series said Zulqarnain Haider had played his last game for Pakistan. He further said that advice from headquarters
is that he has played his last game for Pakistan and PCB will not be pushing him to come back and play again. He said the whole thing has become a total embarrassment for Pakistan Cricket.
Rameez Raja remarks do indicate that the Pakistan Cricket Board has felt embarrassment over this issue but it also highlights that a national player considers another country’s security and governance much better compared to his own country’s cricket board
and team management. It shows the inability of the team officials to provide an environment where players are not hesitant in sharing important events and issues with Team officials and management.
Fellow players have also criticized his decision to flee. Abdul Razzaq has criticized him for leaving Abu Dhabi and going to London. Pakistan’s sports minister has also criticized him saying we do not support his actions and he should have gone to the cricket
board. He also said that they would certainly like to know what happened as it affects the image of the country.
The 24-year old wicket keeper for now has decided to retire from international cricket, whether he will take his decision back or the cricket board will show some flexibility in his case it remains to be seen.
