PCB suspends contracts of suspected trio
Things are not looking bright for the suspended trio (Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif) as the Pakistan Cricket Board has revoked the central contracts of the three players, who are under investigation for spot-fixing by the International Cricket
Council.
This move by the Pakistan Cricket Board comes just days after the players got their appeals against the suspension rejected in a hearing conducted by the International Cricket Council in Dubai.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board was quick to clarify that the central contacts of these players will remain revoked as long as they are under investigation by the International Cricket Council.
Pakistan Cricket Board’s Zakir Khan said that the contracts of players were active until the appeal hearing but once their initial appeals were rejected under the International Cricket Council’s code the Pakistan Cricket Board can no longer keep the players
on contracts.
PCB’s legal advisor Tafazzul Rizvi said, “We only give contacts to players, who can play for Pakistan. Until their cases are decided, they cannot get any benefits from the board in terms of contracts”.
The players were hoping to get their suspensions over turned by appealing to the International Cricket Council. However, after listening to the lawyers of the players the ICC decided to keep the suspension in place and totally rejected the appeal of the
players.
This caused an outburst by the players when they arrived home, accusing the International Cricket Council of trying to defame Pakistan, the players accused the International Cricket Council for being biased and grilling them because of being Pakistanis.
The accused former captain Salman Butt said that the ICC has no substantial evidence of its own against them, and it was only relying on the video footage provided by the tabloid “News of the World”.
Mohammad Amir wanted to know the reasons as to why the International Cricket Council rejected their appeals. Amir told the press that the ICC refused to give any justification for rejecting the appeals.
The Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board has made it very clear that the Pakistan Cricket Board will not be helping the suspended players to fight their case with the ICC in any way. He also said that the players will not and cannot be allowed to use any facilities
of the cricket academy.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to distance itself from the accused players in order to save Pakistan Cricket from an international ban imposed by the International Cricket Council.
The three players (Salman Butt, fast bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif) were accused of spot-fixing during the English tour this summer. After which the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard was given access to the players for interrogation, the players were then suspended
by the Pakistan Cricket Board from taking part in the remaining matches of the series and later the International Cricket Council imposed an indefinite suspension on the trio from International and domestic cricket. The players were then flown back home, where
they decided to appeal against the suspension.
The matter is being investigated by ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit now, and a proper hearing will be conducted the date of which has still not been decided by the International Cricket Council. If the players are found guilty in the hearing they might face a
life ban from international and domestic cricket.
