PCB takes steps to develop friendly relations with Shahid Afridi – Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started taking steps to develop good relationships with the former One Day International skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sahibzada-Mohammad-Shahid-Khan-Afridi-c87933.
Ijaz Butt, the board’s chairman, made it clear that the board does not have any personal rivalry with the former cricketer. Butt inquired about Afridi’s father’s health, who is admitted in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, after suffering from a severe
heart-attack.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 at the hospital, while a senior official of the board also called up the former captain to inquire about the health of his ailing father," a source in the board said.
Afridi, who was playing in the Hampshire Friends Life Twenty20 Championship, left the tournament mid-way after hearing the news of his father’s condition.
Last week, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mal-Loye-c1879, while talking to a television channel, defended his action of removing Afridi from the captaincy by blaming him for the poor show in the Caribbean tour and his breach of contractual terms.
However, now a PCB source has revealed that the board is trying to prove that there is no personal grudge against the all-rounder.
"As far as his contribution to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket is concerned everyone in the board appreciates and admires him for it," the source said.
PCB and Afridi had been engaged in a one-month long row in June, when the board sacked him from limited overs captaincy following the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 tour, where he guided his side 3-2 in the five-match ODI series.
Following his removal, the veteran announced his retirement from International cricket directly to media, without consulting any of the board’s officials and also passed weary remarks against the PCB’s authorities.
Afridi specifically criticised Butt and revealed that he will not resume his cricketing career till the board is under his chairmanship.
As a result, the board issued him show-cause notices for breaching the clauses of his central contract and asked him to provide explanations for his remarks.
The matter was ultimately solved through a closed door meeting between Afridi and Butt. The big-hitter was fined 4.5 million by the board’s disciplinary committee and was issued NOCs to play in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789.
