PCB to decide World Cup and New Zealand tour 'probable' squad
Who will be the probable 30 in the preliminary squad of World Cup and what will be the final ODI squad leaving for New Zealand? The Pakistan cricket Board (PCB) has been under a lot of pressure to make the right decisions. There are a lot of players who
are unavailable for selection because of not getting a clearance from the ICC and some other are stuck in disputes amongst the selection panel.
Had all the players been available for selection, the Pakistan Selection Committee wouldn’t have been involved in any controversies. However, three players Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif cannot be considered because of being suspended by the
ICC whereas Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Malik and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 are also reported to be unavailable for selection because of clearance issues from the ICC.
The national selection committee came together in a meeting on Tuesday in Gaddafi Stadium to decide the 30 man list for the preliminary World Cup squad. One of the members of the committee walked out due to differences over the names in the 30 man list.
One of the selectors; Mohammad Ilyas was not pleased with the selection of Fawad Alam and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahzaib-Hasan-c2488 in the ODI squad. Ilyas walked out on the basis of differences he had with the other members.
Ilyas was furious when Imran Farhat, his son in law was ignored for the New Zealand tour and he decided to quit as a selector due to Farhat’s omission. Ilyas was also not in favour of Fawad Alam and openly criticized the player who has been unimpressive
in recent times.
Ilyas was later requested by the Chairman of the PCB Ijaz Butt to continue his role as a selector. Ilyas will be a part of the meeting which is scheduled to take place today. The meeting will be chaired by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 who was unavailable for the first meeting
held yesterday.
The agenda of the meeting is to finalize the squad for the World Cup 2011 and also decide on the ODI squad for the New Zealand tour. Pakistan is scheduled to play ODI matches against the New Zealand team during January-February 2011. The tour will be crucial
for Pakistan in determining the preliminary squad for the upcoming Word Cup which starts in February, just after the Pakistan-http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 series ends.
The PCB will have to come up with the 30 man preliminary squad for the world Cup until the 19th
of December. The selectors are hopeful to finalize the best possible squad for the Mega event.
The chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 said, “Some of the players are unavailable but we will still try to come out with a strong team for the World Cup.” A national selector stated that the ODI squad for New Zealand may be finalized, but not announced by
the PCB, very soon. He stated, “We will finalise it tomorrow but there are chances that the PCB might decide against announcing it.”
The captain of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 is not happy with the delays and wants the board to take decisions as soon as possible. He believes that the final squad will help the team to prepare for the World Cup. Afridi has demanded a clearer picture
from the board so that the team can head into the right direction.
