PCB to fire http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salim-c88143 Jaffer for creating fuss in team selection matters: Sources

The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohsin-Hasan-Khan-c77595. The issue was raised for further discussion at the meeting of the Governing Board, which was chaired by Chairman PCB Ijaz Butt on Wednesday. The meeting was primarily called for the approval of PCB’s budgetary allocation for the fiscal year 2010-11; however, it delved into controversial waters as usual.

Sources have revealed that the PCB Chief told the members that the PCB has decided to fire Salim Jaffer from the national selection committee membership as he has been found guilty of conspiring against the chief selector. “Butt told the members at the council meeting that it has been decided to remove Salim Jaffer from the national selection committee as he had tried to conspire against Mohsin Khan after the squad was announced for the England tour”, claimed one anonymous source.

Last month, the chief selector flew to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 along with England afterwards. Later on, it came out that the selection committee members were not happy with Chief Selector Mohsin Khan as he did not bother to even confer with them before announcing the squads.

The squads had some surprising inclusions and exclusions; the biggest controversy being the snubbing of former captain Younis Khan from the Test squad as he was the most eligible and probable player for Pakistan’s test squad. Other surprising omissions included senior batsman Faisal Iqbal, fast bowler Muhammad Sami, wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed and opener Khurram Manzoor. The squad controversy received scathing criticism that the sports committee of the upper house of Pakistan had to interfere. The committee called upon the PCB and its selection committee officials to justify their selection.

It was claimed that selector Jaffer held a meeting with Wazir Ali Khoja, who is a member of the governing board. It was in this meeting that Jaffer articulated grievances of the members of the national selection committee against Mohsin’s attitude. Jaffer is a senior selector as he has been serving with the PCB’s selection committee since 2007.

The hidden source also revealed that the selectors tried to meet the PCB chief to convey their dissatisfaction but Ijaz declined to accommodate their request.

Sources also revealed that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 told the members that no paid employee of the board is allowed to create fuss over the board’s decision. He also made it clear that dissension from any paid employee would not at all be tolerated and since Salim Jaffer was a paid employee of the board, he should not have reacted in this manner over the selection of Pakistan’s national team for the England tour.

“Butt told the members he would be removing Jaffer and reducing the number of members on the selection committee but Mohsin would continue as chief selector”, one source said.

Ijaz Butt, during the meeting, had also justified the selection committee’s decision of announcing the squad from Sri Lanka rather than Lahore. The PCB Chief had also revealed that former skipper and legendary player http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 had refused to accept a place in the newly formed cricket committee headed by Intikhab Alam, who was the former coach of Pakistan.  Miandad, who is currently the Director General of the PCB, had also denied taking on-field responsibilities of the national cricket team in the past.

Meanwhile, legal experts are questioning the validity of the Governing Board’s meeting that approved the Rs. 2.6 billion budgetary allocation for the next fiscal year. “Only six members attended Wednesday's meeting so the quorum was not complete”, one expert added.
