PCB to get government’s security clearance before applying for hosting rights – Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is keen to get security clearance from interior ministry before bidding for hosting rights of the Asia Cup and urging international teams to come and play on Pakistani soil.
PCB is on the verge of ensuring proper security of visiting teams, after learning a lesson from the nuisance it had to face in 2009, when Zimbabwe visited Pakistan but the series was called off due to insufficient security measures.
Talking to the media today, a PCB source said, “In 2009 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 had agreed to tour Pakistan to play a one-day series to raise funds for the flood victims but the interior ministry didn't give clearance for the tour because at that time the month of Muharram
was coming and they had concerns over the security for the touring side.”
He further told, “What has been decided is that the PCB will first seek approval from the interior ministry and security clearance before it makes an official bid for the Asia Cup.”
The PCB chief, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, wants Pakistan to host the Asia Cup in 2014. Moreover, he is h**l-bent to revive international cricket in the country which has not hosted a single foreign cricket team since March 2009 when Team Sri Lanka were ransacked during
their tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 for a bilateral series.
On 3 March, 2009, a group of armed terrorists attacked the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 when they were marching towards the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore to play a Test match, killing at least eight civilians on spot and leaving many others injured. It marked the halt of international
cricket in Pakistan.
Due to the constantly exacerbating security situation in the state, Pakistan was also deprived of the hosting rights of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The blackout of international cricket has cost PCB a lot in terms of finances. Now, the country cricket managers are manoeuvring hard to break this chill at every cost provided the government cooperates in this regards.
