PCB to organise exhibition match for flood victims
Two weeks after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and other international cricketing countries.
The Board has asked for the availability of players especially from the Asian countries. It is in conversations with Wales and the England Cricket Board (ECB) for funds and assistance for the exhibition match. The PCB feels the need to contribute something which could help the victims. An exhibition match of such a magnitude means millions are expected to come in. “This is the ideal opportunity for us to play our in raising funds for millions of people who have been displaced by floods. We want to play our role in their rehabilitation,” a PCB official told the press on Thursday.
He also added, “Obviously we have a large population of Asians in the United Kingdom and the presence of the Indian, Sri Lankan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 players in the international eleven will be a big selling point.” The details were being worked under the auspices of the ECB. The board itself would help us in the organizing the match and its logistics. The dates will be finalised once all the cricketing boards would respond to the appeal to help. And everyone’s willingness to contribute is the factor which in fact matters the most.
According to the Pakistani government officials and international experts, an estimated 1400 lives have been lost and millions have been displaced by the devastating floods which struck Pakistan in the last week of July. The effected are in such huge numbers that the natural disaster is bigger than the tsunami and the 2006 earthquake which hit Pakistan. The Pakistani government is urging international societies for help and aid in this time of need. “Proceeds of the match will go towards the rehabilitation of families displaced by the worst floods in the country’s history,” the PCB said.
To ensure those who are willing to directly donate funds to the PCB, other speculations were made about Ijaz Butt, whether the exhibition match is an image changing step taken by the chairman and the Board. Cricket is a global game. It is loved by millions of people around the world. Even previously, such matches have been organised by different countries to help and collect donations. Since the floods in Pakistan are of such a big magnitude, donations are required at such an international level. The effected are rehabilitated and facilitated in the right manner.
Floods have affected the government really badly. It was already struggling to fight an Islamic insurgency and were hardly coping with the aftermath of the plane crashed occurred earlier in the month.
One might feel bad for the people of Pakistan to be going through such a phase. The country indeed is going through a rough patch and it is only depending on international help in terms of aid and funds to help the displaced. This is the time where the cricketing world and cricket lovers should step forward. And help in any way they can. Cricket lovers in England and around the world should participate in fundraising activities to help those in need. Let’s just hope the PCB is able to manage all these international players under one flag. And the money raised is channelized and used as it is required. Hopefully, the involvement of ECB would surely make this event happen and satisfy those in need.
