The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to distance itself from the four new players who have been accused by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed in a video tape leaked just last week.
In the tape Majeed claimed that along with suspended trio (Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif), Imran Farhat, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal and Wahab Riaz were also involved in spot-fixing.
These claims have added more misery on the Pakistan Cricket Board which is already facing problems dealing with the embarrassing situation of the trio and the runaway wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider. Another spot-fixing scandal was the last thing that PCB
wanted. Now with Majeed’s claims the cat is out of the bag and like it or not the PCB is supposed to give some sort of a response. It has been less than a week since Majeed made his claims and still no official statement has come from the Pakistan Cricket
Board.
The Board is totally silent on the issue and has adopted a policy of wait and see. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board has decided to wait till the outcome of the hearing of the suspended trio, and it is only after the decision of the hearing that the PCB will decide
what to do with the latest four players, Majeed and “The news of the World”
According to a PCB official, “The PCB has adopted a wait-and-see approach because it is a sensitive matter. With the position of the suspended trio still uncertain, the board cannot afford to bury itself under more rubble at this point in time.”
Unlike the PCB, the two players Imran Farhat and Umar Akmal are considering taking some legal action against Majeed for trying to defame them. Both the players claim their innocence. Akmal told that he has never had any interaction with Majeed and the bookie
has never ever been his agent, so according to Akmal there is absolutely no truth in what Majeed has said about the young player.
Imran Farhat has warned Majeed to give solid proof supporting his claims or Farhat will press charges against him.
The two players are considering all legal options against these new accusations. They were hoping to garner some support from the Pakistan Cricket Board, but the board has refused to get into this matter and has left the players on their own.
Akmal wanted to consult the PCB before suing Majeed because he is under contract and didn’t want to breach any code of conduct. So far according to the PCB this lawsuit will have nothing to do with the board since these are going to be individual defamation
lawsuits, which do not come under the domain of the board.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had distanced itself from the spot-fixing trio when they were accused of wrong doing early this summer. The policy of the PCB for those tainted players was clear that they were not to be helped by the board in anyway. The PCB suspended
their central contracts and barred them from using any facilities belonging to the board.
