PCB yet to finalize 2012 contracts - Intikhab Alam - Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board might unveil its list of centrally contracted players before the team leaves for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380 on Friday.
The PCB selectors announced the squads for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka on Thursday but the board official are still in process of finalizing new contracts. The contracts of national players expired on December 31 last year and since then the board has
been contemplating over revisions.
“We are still finalising the list,” Alam, a PCB director and former team manager, told The Express Tribune on Friday. “We are waiting for the right time and it’s possible that they may be announced before the team departs for Sri Lanka,” he added
further.
The announcement has been delayed several times in the last four months, but Alam said that they are near finalizing the list and will soon make it public. A possible pay-raise, change in selection committee and performance monitoring of players by the newly
appointed head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571 are the few realistic reasons behind the delay in the announcement in past.
Well placed sources from inside the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board have claimed that 25 to 35 players will be awarded central contracts this year and the contracts will be backdated to January. Alam however, remained non-committal when asked about the exact number
of players being granted the contract.
PCB had not raised the salaries of players last year, but the PCB General Body is considering a hefty pay raise this time, claimed the sources.
Flamboyant Pakistan all-rounder and former skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088 is also expected
to find a contract from PCB, based on his impressive performance in domestic cricket.
However, there are very few chances of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623 finding their names in the new list.
Pakistan cricket team will leave for Sri Lanka on 29th of this month to play three Tests, five ODIs and two T20 Internationals against Islanders.
