PCB’s Integrity Committee asks http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088 to come clean
The integrity committee of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has again asked discarded players Danish Kaneria and Shoaib Malik to come clean by disclosing their financial assets. According to the PCB, it is imperative that the players disclose the source
of their earnings, if they want to be cleared for selection in the national team.
According to a PCB source, the situation of the players was being processed on a case to case basis and the process would only speed up if the players decide to cooperate with the integrity committee. The committee was formed by the PCB after the spot-fixing
fiasco which took place last year, involving http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993.
The PCB decided that the integrity committee would investigate the earnings of every player to make sure that they did not possess any black money which could indicate their involvement in corrupt practices.
Speaking on the cases of Kaneria and Malik a PCB source said, “Both cases are different. While in Malik's case the committee wants him to provide more details about his bank accounts, assets and mode of earnings, in Kaneria's case his issue is related to
him being investigated by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 police last year in connection with a spot-fixing scandal in county cricket."
The leg-spinner Kaneria was accused of being involved in match-fixing in a county match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 in 2009. He was investigated by the local police, but no charges were levelled against him, because the police believed that there was no evidence which
could prove any foul play by the Pakistani spinner.
Nevertheless, the PCB seems unsatisfied and wants to be sure that the player has no links with match-fixers. Until the PCB is sure of Kaneria’s innocence it is highly unlikely that he will be cleared for selection in the national team.
Shoaib Malik on the other hand, has provided some details regarding his financial assets, apart from his account in England. The PCB in interested about where he got the money which is in that particular account. Since Malik failed to provide the details
of his foreign account, the integrity committee decided not to clear him for selection, which meant he missed out on the ICC World Cup 2011.
However, reports suggest that Malik is desperate to make a comeback in the national team, and has been cooperating with the integrity committee in recent days. The all-rounder has given further details regarding his financial assets and foreign accounts,
but still he has been asked for some more information. Malik has pledged to provide the required details soon.
The PCB is taking these steps as part of a campaign to rid the country’s cricket from all sort of corrupt practices which could lead to match/spot-fixing in the future.
