PCB’s T20 proposal rejected by ICC – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s proposal to host more than three T20 matches against Australia in August this year has met with initial rejection from the International Cricket Council.
Following a terrorist attack by militants on the visiting Sri Lankan squad in March 2009, Pakistan has been deemed an unsafe venue for touring teams, forcing the Men In Green to host their series in neutral venues, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 being their most
frequent choice.
With an upcoming limited-overs series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Malaysia-c2949 and the UAE emerging as potential prospects. The series was initially meant to include ODI matches, but on the
suggestion of the Emirates board, which advised the PCB to just play six to seven T20s owing to the heat and the approaching holy month of Ramadan, the board submitted a request to the ICC to allow the teams to play more than three T20s.
While the proposal was rejected by the world body, the ICC also went on to advise the PCB to bring the matter up at an upcoming Chief Executive meeting.
“We had requested the ICC to allow us organise a series of more than three T20 matches against Australia in the coming series but the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 instead has advised us that this matter should be discussed at the ICC's Chief Executive meeting,” said Subhan Ahmed,
the PCB’s chief operating officer.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380, the board’s head of international cricket operations, is currently in Kuala Lumpur on a grounds inspection, and will be travelling to the UAE for the same purpose – he is then due to submit a report to the board, after which a final
decision on the venue will be taken.
“Once Intikhab submits his report on the ground conditions in both countries we will decide where to hold the Australia series. But one problem we face in organising the series in Kuala Lumpur is that in August the forecast is for 17 days of rain and that
could spoil our series,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ahmed-Said-c42354.
He also explained that the series needed to be held anytime in between August 20 to September 11, in order to enable the team to make it to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in time for the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin by September 13.
