PCB’s guidelines for New Zealand tour
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given some guidelines to players ahead of their tour to New Zealand on the recommendations of the Federal government and the International Cricket Council.
The Pakistani squad has reached New Zealand to participate in six One-day Internationals, Three Twenty20s and two Tests.
A senior PCB official aware of the current developments said that they had received several guidelines from the International Cricket Council as well as from the Federal government. The Federal government not only sent guidelines
to the PCB senior officials but rather asked them to direct players to follow them in letter and spirit.
The players have been guided properly over the matter and they are told that the foreign media and the ICC’s anti-corruption unit will keep strict eyes on the players and all of their activities will be observed. All the Pakistani
players are supposed to report any problem to the team management immediately.
“We have seen in the recent past the squad has been hit by spot-fixing allegations bringing a bad name to the country and then a sudden slip of wicket-keeper Zulqernain Haider from Dubai,” the official added.
Pakistan cricket has been going through one of the worst periods due to spot fixing allegations, as a result of which the ICC has taken serious action, suspending three leading players – Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad
Aamir who were charged for balling deliberate no-balls in a match against England at Lord’s.
The trio is supposed to appear before an ICC tribunal, on January 6th in Doha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986.
Salman Butt has recently submitted a detailed response to the ICC, which was rejected because according to the ICC it merely contained the rejection of allegations. The ICC then directed the player to resubmit the response, which
the players have sent again.
In addition, three of the senior Pakistani players – Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 were also suspended due to match fixing allegations. The Trio has had to pay a heavy price as they were forbidden to participate
in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 tour.
The official said: “The team management has devised a comprehensive plan for security of the players at hotels and even at grounds. A disciplinary breach means end of cricketing career of the guilty.”
The most embarrassing moment which the poorly managed PCB faced recently was, when former wicket keeper of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Zulqarnain Haider went missing during the series against South Africa in Dubai and was then later on found to
have surfaced in London.
The official of the PCB further said that they are aware that players have not followed disciplinary guidelines in the past, however, this time board’s management has stricter policies. He reported that a comprehensive security
protocol would be followed for which the players have also assured their complete support. He has also expressed hope that everything will go fine this time.
The PCB governing council is also going to conduct a crucial meeting on Thursday, which will be held at the PCB headquarters. Cricket committee will brief the members about the ongoing New Zealand tour and other competitions planed
for the national players. Besides, the council will also discuss the preparations for the Word Cup, the performances of national players, selections matters, relations with ICC as well as the spot-fixing allegations, match fixing allegations against some key
players and the Zulqarnain controversy.
Furthermore, the governing council will discuss the audit report and accounts of the institution. The board members will be briefed on the recently concluded series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 including its
financial matters.
