i have a friend who has PCOS and have heard that with the help of Clomid or other fertility drugs that she should be able to have a baby one day! the thing is though that she has been trying for a while now (6yrs) and still nothing!!!! she cant afford IVF, so shes just hoping that eventually she will get preggerz!!!!

my question is: for those of you who have PCOS can you fill me in on all the info....also is it true that some women may never fall pregnant due to PCOS?? what can i do to help with her situation? and what can she do to assist with falling pregnant??

all answers are appreciated!!

thanks

  1. I have PCOS and am currently 21 weeks pregnant today.I concieved naturally a year ago but had a early miscarriage. With this pregnancy I concieved of 50mg of clomid for 5 days and 1000mg metformin.I was  trying for over 5 years to concieve.Metforming was more to help me not miscarry even though some will argue it not good for you but its seems to have worked so far. When you have pcos your hormones are all out of controll. Some ladies with it go months even years with out periods so there not ovulating.Another issue is weight its harder for us to lose it and weight can play a big part on infertilty to.She doesnt have to go through a IVF right away there are alot of other options first. The first step is getting periods and weight on track.Mine than tried metformin alone and than added clomid with every other day baby dance. After clomid though they usually want to check the husbands or bf counts and if all goes good they try other meds that arent nearly as much as IVF.Make sure you have a good OBGYN or RE that are educated on PCOS.Its a long and hard road but just cant stress it easier said than done i know.Im sorry if I bounced around alot theres so much about pcos.I hope something will work for you friend.Just try to be supportive theres not much more you can do.

  2. Hi - check out this website.  Hope you can find something that helps your friend.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polycystic_...

  3. I have 2 kids and having a third in a few weeks.  I lost weight and started ovulation again on my own and got my cycles back.  Clomid and provera and shots didn't help me at all.  Insulin resistance causes the PCOS so you have to remember to watch the carbs and eat more like a diabetic which means watch the breads, pastas, cereal, sweets, rice and pop and other sugary drinks.  I just gave up all of them for 3 months, lost 50 lbs and got my cycles back.  Now if I eat the carbs my cycles get weird again but if I watch it then my cycles are fine.  She should also make sure to take her prenatals to build her system up.  Cinnamon is great too, it helps with insulin control as does another OTC product for glucose and metabolism control.

  4. i have PCOS and have been trying for 25 months for my 1st. My Hubby and i tried for 6 months before i went on clomid i was on it for 6 cycles and each time it was upped 50mg and was unsuccessful. I have had 2 unsuccessful Fresh IVF cycles and have just undergone another fresh ivf cycle and find out if I'm preg on Fri. undergoing fertility treatments is very stressful but there are quite a few options other than IVF that are quite reasonable. in some cases most IVF clinics do offer finance to help out people who cant afford the treatment. the best thing for your friend to do is speak to her dr and find out what options would suit her mentally, physically and financially. yet there are cases where people have pcos and fall pregnant naturally but there are some that need a little help.
