PCOS.. going away on its own?

ok.. my periods haven't been normal since I was about 15. I went to a gyno when I was 19, who told me that its very likely that I have PCOS. I was only having periods like twice a year, and there were cysts on my ovaries when he gave me an ultra sound. By 21 I was starting to notice black hairs on my chin, and around my b*****s. I'm certain I have PCOS. Well, now I'm almost 24, and for the past 7 months or so, my periods have been right on time every month. I went from only having them every 3-6 months, to being normal. I'm not on any meds or birth control. I was just wondering if its possible for PCOS to just go away on its own? I still have the annoying stray hairs that I have to bring the tweezers to, but I'm hoping maybe that will stop also? Does anyone know if you can just "grow out" of PCOS?

  1. sorry the hair is there to stay and so is the pcos i have had it sense i started my monthly friend and i was told i would never have kids because i only got my period once a year and i have had 4 including a set of twins. it can be very pain full to have when the cysts acted up but most of the time i never knew i had them right now the doctors are treating it with metform a sugar pill but i had to go off it because it messed with my sugar.if you want to start a family dont give up hope it will happen.will pcos your eggs will not drop like normal sometimes it will happen three mouth down the road thats how it happened for me good luck and sorry for the bad news on the chin hair

  2. Nope, once you have it you always have it.  But it's very possible for the symptoms of PCOS to change throughout the years. One of the biggest reasons for a change in symptoms is a change in weight--if PCOS'ers lose a little weight the symptoms ease up a bit, and also if you put on weight the symptoms tend to get worse. Other things that can help ease the symptoms include: eating better, eating low-carb, cutting out refined sugars, going on meds that lower blood sugar and help with insulin resistance.

  3. Hmmm well it's not even certain you had PCOS to start with, buteither way, No PCOS can not go away on it's own, it just doesn't happen, and there is no cure for it. Treatments yet to curb the symptoms of it but that's about all. From what you are describing sounds perfectly normal as with PCOS some months might be better then others and you might not have as many sypmtoms as before, and it may get worse again. It can vary, I've had a few good runs myself with periods being on time and other things calming down, only to have it flare up again months down the track.

So no you can not grow out of it, IF you did have it, then you still do now. and always will, even a complete hysterectomy won't do any good because it's not the actual ovaries that cause the problems it's the Syndrome that causes the problems. Sucks doesn't it.

  4. I have PCOS and I do not think you can "grow out" of it--you will and probably still have cysts on your ovaries...I had a baby 7 months ago and since May I have had regular periods but I still have PCOS...it is just one of those things--having PCOS does not mean you will get every symptom of it..some PCOS people are obese and have bad acne...others might just get acne or have some facial hair--which you DO NOT want to tweeze--you should go to electroylsis, which is permant hair removal over time..tweezing it will make your hair keep growing back and possibly come back thicker or even multiply over time...good luck and I hope I have helped!!
