PCV Valve 1996 Ford Windstar 3.8?

Question

I can't tell if what I replaced is it. This sat on the FRONT valve cover. Replacement Valve sat fine in it, but the thing I took off looked nothing like the replacement part. . The one I took off laid sideways and connected to the hose, and really didn't have a valve in it. Could this have been some other vacuum hose out of the valve cover? PLEASE NOTE!!!! I worked with the front valve cover PASSENGER SIDE closest to the headlight, NOT the one on back by the cabin. This is usually the simplest thing ever, but I wonder now. Please don't answer unless you know what your talking about.

PCV valve is under hood, passenger side, rear engine area, mounted on top rear side of valve cover
