PDA and sending emails. Are there any charges?

I am thinking of buying a pda to get access to emails. I use Virgin broadband at home. would I have to pay any charges to anyone to use my pda when I am away from home or could I still connect via my broadband account? what would I have to do with a pda to get connected/send emails wherever I was.

If your PDA has Wi-Fi capability, you can send/receive e-mails at any open hot spot for free.
