PDA supplier, Handheld Group sponsors PUMA Ocean Racing in 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race
Internationally famous supplier of advanced rugged PDAs and other computational devices, Handheld Group, has joined PUMA Ocean Racing and will be sponsoring them for the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 at Cape Town.
The PUMA onboard crew with Mar Mostro, also known as the Monster of the Sea, will be using the high-tech and incredible tablet Algiz 7 from Handheld during the event for everything from navigation to calculations and communication as a part of the sponsorship.
Like other rugged PDAs and mobile computers from Handheld, Algiz 7 has especially been developed for use in tough environments in industries such as geometrics, forestry, logistics, mining, security, public transportation, military, construction, utilities,
maintenance and extreme sports.
The Algiz 7 can tolerate unfriendly conditions and the PUMA Ocean Racing crew will be testing and relying upon it to perform a wide range of tasks like using it as a backup computer and remotely controlling the main navigation computers below deck via a
wireless network.
Handheld's Algiz 7 ultra-rugged tablet will be used by navigator, Tom Addis as well as the crew on board PUMA Ocean Racing for communications requirements and computing during the nine-month Volvo Ocean Race, where they will face some of the world's toughest
weather conditions to sail.
Speaking about the tablet, Addis said, “When you're navigating around rocks, marks and more, it's really great to have a device with you on deck. The Handheld Algiz 7 tablet provides a link to the systems below deck and allows you to have all of the information
right at hand. Even the navigator is active, and the Handheld tablet makes work more efficient in all conditions onboard PUMA's Mar Mostro.”
Handheld marketing director, Sofia Löfblad spoke to the media and said, “We are happy to be sponsors of the PUMA Ocean Racing crew, and proud that they have chosen our ultra-rugged Algiz 7 tablet for their all-important computing needs. We look forward to
following the race and will be cheering for PUMA's Mar Mostro all the way!"
The ultra-rugged, 7-inch widescreen tablet, Algiz 7, runs Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate OS offering users wireless communication across the globe. It also offers a new MaxView technology, efficient in providing a spectacular screen clarity and brightness
in open-air conditions which is quite helpful during sailing.
