PDC Circuit: Tour cards quadrilateral selected
With the PDC Competition entering a new phase, amateur darts players are getting increasingly anxious to grab the Tour Card to secure their position in the PDC Circuit at the very beginning of their careers.
So far, it has been good for many, as a quartet has also come into formation. Kurt Van De Rijck, Steve West, Stuart Kellett and Michael Barnard have, so far, been successful in getting hold of their license to play in the PDC circuit.
Since his qualification in the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship, Van De Rijck has been performing consistently well to reserve his place at the PDC.
The 39-year-old Belgian, who lays parquet flooring to arrange bread and butter for his family, was able to defeat Andrew Gilding by 6-5.
In an exciting encounter, the player from Norfolk was able to provide the Belgian opportunities for capitalising and increasing scores.
The most prominent being the miss of hitting a double 12 and a 141 checkout.
Commenting on the occasion, Van De Rijck said, "I'm very happy and relieved, I was 5-2 up in the last game and Andrew came back to five-all, so I was very nervous”.
He went on, "I'm hoping to make progress this year and my next goal is playing in the World Cup with Kim Huybrechts next month - my target there is to make the semi-finals”.
In another series of interesting events that took place, Romford Barnard and Steve West were able to secure victories in their respective series of encounters, to reserve their position in the PDC.
In the matches that took place at Barnsley Metrodome, 36-year old West, from Essex, was able to clear all his hurdles.
His triumph came in the form of outclassing Carlos Rodriguez, Matt Padgett, Ian Moss, Connie Finnan and Gino Vos to finally get a touch of the Tour Card.
For him, his brother, Tony West, and his style of play have always served as a source of inspiration and improvement.
35-year-old Romford, on the other hand, was able to cruise into the PDC after successfully accomplishing his series of challenges by defeating Jerry Hendriks, English pair Martyn Turner and Steve Grubb.
His defeated opponents also include the prominent darts player Andy Jenkins.
With the inclusion of the new talent breed into the PDC, it is being expected that the hegemony of the older ones will definitely begin to weaken.
