  1. when it is our summer it is their winter!  as for history and culture, whatever its boring there.

  2. If you have the chance, try to see a bit of WA outside of Perth as well.

    Points of Interest:

    * King's Park

    * Fremantle, and especially the Maritime Museum

    * Perth Mint

    There's probably heaps of other places worth checking out, but they will depend on your interests.

    History:

    The area around Perth has been home to the Nyoongar people for thousands of years. European awareness of the Perth area began in 1697 when the Dutch explorer de Vlamingh explored the area.

    White settlement in Perth began in 1829. It was originally set up as a free settlement, but was opened up to convict labour in 1850.

    Since the 1890s Perth has prospered through a series of mining booms. This started with goldrushes, but there have been several mining booms since, and the result has been that Perth has grown in a series of spurts.

    What to wear:

    May to June will be cool to cold and it will probably (hopefully!) rain. It won't snow, and the maximum temperatures won't go lower than the mid-teens (Celsius). Some overseas visitors are also surprised to find that most buildings in Perth lack central heating, and it can be very windy at times too, so you might find it colder than you expect.

  3. Most days it will be cold enough for long pants and a jumper and a jacket for going outside.

    History and culture...... hmmm that's a hard one.

    There is the old Fremantle jail which has a guided tour - that's pretty interesting.

    Perth has only been settled for a couple of hundred years so we are a bit light on the history side compared to other places.
