PGA Championship hammered by
Peter Senior and the rain

As much as The Coolum wanted to dodge the rain, it failed to do so and The Australian PGA Championship stretched to a 5 day long affair.
The PGA Championship ended today on the 13th and awarded the $270,000.00 first place gratuity to Peter Senior after he carded a decent 71 in the last round of the event. Senior is now the holder of the Coca-Cola presented
title for the third time in his career and won the event after a rather thrilling playoff match.
The play-off match was played against Geoff Ogilvy at the Hyatt Regency Coolum, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. According to reports, Senior grabbed his OneAsia for the first time against the 2008 Australian PGA Championship winner
after a two hole playoff and a lot of rain.
The PGA play halted around 2 p.m. and was scheduled to restart after one hour but unluckily, rain continued to hammer the Coolum grounds and the restart was delayed first to 4 p.m. and then to 5 p.m. only to be delayed  further
to the next day at 6 in the morning.
The Championship favoured the 51-year old when Ogilvy unfortunately missed his putt on the second playoff hole. Senior played the final holes with Ogilvy and Andre Stolz as the concluding group and played the 17th hole
when the 33-year old Australian attacked the 12 under cult. With the 18th still left to play, the apex held Ogilvy, Senior and Stolz with a minus 12 on the leader board.
However, the last hole failed to determine the leader but managed to shake Stolz off, by handing him a bogey. For Stolz, the Coolum’s 18th bought bad news as his ball shot straight to the water and pushed him down the leader board
after his score increased to a regrettable 11 under.
With Stolz down to minus 11, he joined Nick O’Hern and Peter Fowler on the leaderboard and rendered the T3 position at the PGA Championship after missing one long birdie putt to finish as equals. But no matter what happened down
the scoreboard, Senior experienced one of the sweetest wins ever as the fifty one year old bagged the current win after a long 20 year stint.
“My first few holes weren’t that good, but my finish with a birdie was ecstatic” Senior said.
Senior carded a minus one for the day and collected a total of 276 strokes to top the leader board.
