PGA Golf: UNIQA Ladies Open top players
UNIQA Ladies Open is back with a purse of 2 million Euros at the course of Foehrenwald golf club near Wiener Neustadt from the 3rd -5th September, 2010 with eight of this season’s tournament winners and seven players from the top ten of the Henderson Money List.
The Golf Club Foehrenwald is stretched on 6243 yards for the tournament, with a par 72. The course is known for its water hazards and sand bunkers situated diagonally in the middle of the fairways. The course has not changed much from the last year except the grass, which has been drained to make the putting easier for the players.
There is some tough competition coming up and Lee-Anne Pace is definitely the player to keep an eye on, as she collected her third title of the season in Finland last week. The 31-year-old is in a great form, having won two of her last three tournaments and finishing at the second spot in the other. Moreover, after her debut LET victory at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open in this year’s June, she is one of the players who had the privilege of winning three consecutive tournaments. The magic spell started with the top 1 finish at the S4C Wales Ladies Championship in Europe, following it to the second spot finish at the Aberdeen Ladies Scottish Open and finally another victory at the Finnair Masters on Sunday.
Pace is standing at the first place in the Henderson Money List by a huge margin. If she increases the lead by banking on the €20,000, which is the prize money for the second spot leader, then she will earn herself a ten-year exemption from the Ladies European Tour.
Another player in lead is the English woman Melissa Reid. She is second on the Henderson Money list and a strong contender for the winning position. The player is looking forward for her second title victory after winning the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open five months back. Laura Davies form England also surely deserves attention. She is ranked forth according to the Henderson Money List, and she took this spot after winning two majors in Germany and New Zealand in the same season. Regarding her previous achievements, she is the record-holder of two victories at the UNIQA Ladies Open in 2007 and 2008. The victories could have been three, if she would not have lost the playoff to Linda Wessberg last year. According to the player, she feels comfortable on the course as it suits her game. However, this year she is expecting a tougher competition, as there are great players coming to the field but she is positive that with all variables running in her favour she will be able to finish at the top.
Another competent figure in the golf event is Virginie Lagoutte-Clement from France. She is ranked sixth on the Henderson Money List after claiming the lead at the Aberdeen Ladies Scottish Open. She holds a record of 74 tournaments in her bag, and is followed by Anja Monke from Germany, who is seventh on the Henderson Money List and the winner of the Lalla Meryem Cup. Next comes Vikki Laing from Scotland; the runners up at the Aberdeen Ladies Scottish Open is the ninth player on this list. The last but not the least is the tenth ranked Florentyna Parker of England, the winner of ABN AMRO Ladies Open champion.
Wrapping it up, the ladies European Tour is back with UNIQA Ladies Open carrying a purse of 2 million Euros at the course of Foehrenwald golf club from the 3rd -5th September, 2010. According to the analyst’s the event is bringing a complete package of entertainment, as the world will witness the best female golfers of the world striking at each other with their experience and skills.
