PGA Grand Slam of Golf-Round up
Padraig Harrington made sure that there are no hiccups for him this time around. The Irishman put up a commanding display of golf over the course of two days to win the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
The three-time major winner shot four-under 67 on Wednesday to make sure that he gets home safely. Harrington got an alternate entry in to the tournament after Ernie Els had withdrawn due to an ankle injury.
This was his third time at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and, with two previous losses in 2007 and 2008, he had some scores to settle which he did in the end.
"It was unfinished business for me, having lost in two playoffs. It was nice to come back and win it now," he said.
Webb Simpson came closest to challenge the Irishman at the Port Royal Golf and Club. The US Open champion carded the best round of the tournament. He shot six-under for the day but fell just a stroke shot of Harrington.
"I think the turning point for us was kind of the 10 through 13 stretch," Simpson said. "I had some good looks and played them even, and he played them 3 under".
"I had two putts I hit in a row that were a foot out; the ball is in the middle and you think it's going to stay straight. Kind of gut-wrenching those two holes, to have those looks and thinking I'm making birdie".
Bubba Watson did not have the best of days, as he shot an ever par round of 72. In the end, he had to settle for a T3 finish with Keegan Bradley, who improved from his first round’s performance by carding a four-under 67.
The 2011 PGA Champion, Bradley was the defending champion but his first round’s performance dealt a huge blow on his chances to defend his crown in Bermuda.
Watson started the day just two strokes behind the overnight leader and the eventual winner, Padraig Harrington, but soon fell off the pace with some sluggish display of golf.
Simpson, however, impressed everybody on Wednesday with his terrific display of golfing skills at the Port Royal Golf Club.
However, the way the Irishman was playing, it was probably too much to ask for from the US Open champion.
